Heritage Diversity Stories

All of the ethnocultural communities that have helped transform Toronto into the vibrant metropolis it is today have intriguing stories to tell. Heritage Diversity Stories presents some of the stories that members of nine communities – Chinese, Italian, Korean, Pakistani, Filipino, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Tamil – deem important. Launched by Heritage Toronto in 2012, Heritage Diversity Stories is a multilingual online resource combining textual narrative with video interviews. It consists of 26 historical vignettes. The topics covered include Fascism and the Italian community, faith and family among Torontonians of Pakistani origin, the experiences of Portuguese workers in the construction and garment industries, and the establishment of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church. The MHSO provided virtually all of the historical photographs for the site, and many of its publications served as important sources in the creation of the vignettes.
