Virtual Volunteering
The MHSO is currently involved in a major initiative – establishing an online repository, Discovering Multicultural Canada (DMC), to make archival materials documenting our migration, ethnic, and Indigenous histories more readily accessible. An integral part of this project is producing transcripts of our thousands of hours of oral history interviews. Thanks to our dedicated team of virtual volunteers from across Ontario and beyond, the Society has finalized over 500 interview transcripts, but it still has many more to go. We are looking for responsible, organized, and enthusiastic individuals who wish to support the DMC initiative and are interested in engaging with first-person testimonies. Previous experience in transcription and/or translation is an asset, although not essential. We ask that our volunteers dedicate a minimum of four hours per week.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- transcribing oral history interviews,
- transcribing non-English-language oral history interviews (many are in a variety of heritage languages) and translating the transcripts into English, and
- editing transcripts.

The MHSO is committed to supporting students interested in pursuing professional careers in the archival, heritage, and cultural fields by providing meaningful, hands-on work experiences.

Donations
The Society is grateful for the generous support it receives from community organizations, such as Villa Charities, the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Foundation and the Rákóczi Foundation, and from private individuals. Donations made to the MHSO enable it to operate a wide range of programs and services. As a registered charity, the Society is able to provide tax receipts to individuals for all donations over $20.
