Chiu, Mrs. F. L.

In this interview, F. L. Chiu, who was studying Finance at the University of Windsor at the time of the interview, discusses the influence of Christianity and religion on the Chinese Canadian community. Ms Chiu, who was born in Hong Kong, has lived in Canada for the past 7 years in order to attend school. She discusses her stance on religion, explaining that she is not religious because she feels that there is too much injustice and inequality in the world for a god to exist. Nevertheless, Ms Chiu goes on to recognize the power of religion to inspire people to be better and to promote peace and harmony in society. Ms Chiu also explains that many Buddhist customs are practiced in her own home, owing to what she refers to as her family’s ‘superstition’ rather than an actual acceptance of the Buddhist philosophy.
