Wong, Larry
Jennie Diment (née Wong) was the first Chinese Canadian Disc Jockey in Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1948, Jennie won a Vancouver Sun-sponsored contest judged by a panel made up of New York Disc Jockey Freddie Robbins, orchestra leader Claude Thornhill and performer Frank Sinatra. Her prize was a half hour radio spot called Jennie’s Juke Joint, which broadcast Saturday afternoons on CKMO in Vancouver. After moving to Edmonton, Alberta, she worked as a weather reporter for CBC radio. Later, she began her own business doing theatrical and TV makeup. As of 2010, Jennie was retired from her 25-year career in makeup and still resided in Edmonton, Alberta.
