Maria Angelica in her office at the Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples. The Chileans were the first Hispanic community of any significant size in Toronto, and came by and large from a middle-class, well-educated background. They were active in establishing services and resource centres for the diverse Hispanic community that would follow in coming years, particularly from Central America.
