Student Projects
Provided below is a selection of projects that students produced during the Family Stories, Treasured Memories pilot year. Students were given the choice of creating bristol board displays, scrapbooks or treasure boxes. Please note that we were unable to reproduce the text they wrote for privacy reasons.
This grade seven student immigrated to Canada during the early 21st century. She wrote an extensive family history and embellished her written work with a collage, map, strong title and colour.
Shown here is one of two bristol boards a grade 5 student created to display the life story of his great grandfather. This student included one historical photograph of his great grandfather’s family, as well as two maps showing where he lived in Toronto. The image in the bottom left corner is a photocopy of a building his great grandfather helped to design. On the other bristol board, the student reproduced a copy of the passenger list showing his great grandfather’s arrival date in Toronto.
This grade 8 student presented the family origins of her parents and her four grandparents. She illustrates her family history with historical photographs, recent photographs, and a map.
This grade 5 student interviewed her grandmother. On her bristol board, she reproduced parts of the interview, and included flags, photocopies of family photos (including people and places), and other memorabilia to illustrate the family story.
This grade 8 student created a scrapbook of the family history. On this page she included recent and historical photos. Below each of the photos are captions that explain the photographs and tell the family history.
